Ok. This blog is mostly for me to write down my memories for my kids.. So I'm going to start with a memory I have when I was about 2 years old. This was before my parents divorced.. My Papaw Little, who was about 80 at the time, used to take me out the barn with him, to feed the chickens.. One day , we were in the barn and I let the dog in, and it killed one of the chickens.. I started crying, But Papaw soothed my tears. He told me we were going to have that chicken for supper anyway...
Then the next memory is when Momma and Daddy had split. I was 4 years old. momma packed our stuff and 4 kids up and we headed to Houston,Texas from North Mississippi... We got to My Mamaw & Papaw Adams (momma's parents) in Texas. We lived with them until Momma got a rent house for us to live in. We would go back and forth on holidays and in the Summer for the next few years to visit Daddy In North Mississippi...
One Christmas , we were going back home from the visit to Dad's. My oldest sister was about 19, Her fiance who was in the Air Force, had been home on leave from Vietnam. He was riding back to Houston with us, and there he was going to spend a few days then leave to go back. Well, Our Old Oldsmobile's motor blewup in the Delta of Mississippi.. Out in the middle of nowhere.. Now, we had to call Daddy and he could only wire us enough money to catch a bus to Houston. So all 5 of us walked to the bus station , from the service station that the car was towed to... The next bus was not going to leave until the next morning. This was about 8pm. so there we were.. We had very little money after we had purchased the bus tickets. There was a Holiday Inn JR.... it was trailers hooked together...lol... so we got two trailers between the 5 of us.. My brother Steve, slept on a cot. Then my two sisters slept in the one trailer..very small regular bed..Since I was 4 at the time, they waited til I was asleep then put me in the room with the boys.. of course, now My sister and My brother-in-law have been married 35 years..lol My brother in law is more of a brother because he's been around nearly all of my life..They used to take me to the dairy bar on dates with them when I was a toddler..lol
anyway, back to the story... since we didn't have much money, my oldest sister bought a jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread, then we went into the restaurant. We ordered cokes all around, then when the waitress wasn't looking, she fixed us all peanut butter sandwiches... I don't care for peanut butter to this day..lol
The next morning, we got on the greyhound bus and preceded on our way to Houston,Texas. I still remember that ride. The longest of my life.. To this day, I do not like to ride a bus......
